Damage Signs

Is your masonry failing?

Toronto's freeze-thaw cycles are brutal on brickwork. What starts as a hairline crack or a bit of white powder can quickly turn into structural water damage. Repair first, replace only when required.

Spalling (Flaking)

Bricks faces popping off due to trapped moisture freezing.

Efflorescence

White powdery salt stains indicating water infiltration.

Step Cracks

Jagged cracks following mortar joints, often a sign of settlement.

Brick Replacement

We surgically remove damaged units and insert matching bricks without disturbing the surrounding wall.

Tuckpointing

Grinding out old, crumbled mortar and refilling it with fresh, colour-matched mortar.

Waterproofing

Applying breathable sealers and fixing drip edges to stop water before it enters.

Foundation Repair

Fixing parging and cracks at the base of your home to ensure structural integrity.

The Restoration Process

Method matters. We don't use shortcuts or 'band-aid' patches.

1

Assess

We identify the cause (leak vs age) so it doesn't happen again.

2

Source

We visit salvage yards to find a brick match for your 1920s home.

3

Prepare

Dust-controlled grinding and cleaning of the substrate.

4

Restore

Laying and tooling joints to match the original profile.

Window & Door Alterations

Want to turn a window into a sliding door? Or widen an opening for a modern look? We handle the structural masonry work—installing steel lintels, toothing in new brick, and creating clean openings ready for your window installer.

Common Questions

Why are my bricks flaking (spalling)?

Spalling usually happens when moisture gets trapped inside the brick and freezes. This is often caused by using a mortar that is too hard (like Portland cement) on older, softer bricks. We use breathable lime-based mortars to prevent this.

Can you match the color of my old mortar?

Yes. We mix custom mortar onsite, using specific sands and dyes to match the aged look of your existing joints. We also tool the joints to match the original style (convex, concave, or raked).

Do you do small repairs?

Absolutely. Ignoring a small crack or a few loose bricks can lead to major water damage later. We are happy to come out for smaller repair jobs to keep your home sealed.
